Travelling Time’s Escorted tours through Ohio!
If the USA could have a “greatest hits” for a single state, you might just see Ohio at Number 1! It is full of everybody’s favorite things about the USA. From the idyllic scenery found throughout Ohio to it’s hearty cuisine. The top ranking professional sports teams, and of course rock and roll music has a home here. This Midwestern state borders Lake Erie to the north and the Ohio River to the south. It is full of diverse and friendly people, wonderful places and experiences.
The three major urban centers are Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati. All three offer arts, culture, music and cuisine. But authentic experiences and wonderful attractions can be found right across the state.
The term “rock and roll” was popularized by a Cleveland radio DJ. So it makes perfect sense that the city of Cleveland hosts the world-famous Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
In 1985, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation was deciding where to open its physical museum. The City of Cleveland was chosen as the winning site. This was thanks mainly to public support and a $65 million commitment from city officials. On the 7th of June 1993, Pete Townshend, Chuck Berry, Billy Joel, Sam Phillips, and Ruth Brown (to name a few) attended the groundbreaking ceremony. Then “The Killer” Jerry Lee Lewis performed a year later, when the building was finished off with one last steel beam.
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame opened on the 2nd of September 1995. The date was celebrated with a blockbuster benefit concert. This marathon show featured performances by greats such as James Brown, Bob Dylan, Jerry Lee Lewis, Aretha Franklin and Johnny Cash. Then, on the opening weekend a ribbon-cutting ceremony was attended by Little Richard and Yoko Ono.
As the birthplace of artists as diverse as Doris Day to Marilyn Manson is it any wonder Ohio is virtually unmatched in its impact on American Music?
